Remember these three looks at Jesus, backward, upward, forward; and make use of them every day.
The first is the secret of peace of conscience: no peace unless we look backward at the cross of Christ!
The second is the secret of real daily strength and comfort in our walk with God: little solid comfort unless we look upward to Christ's intercession!
The third is the secret of bright and cheerful hope in a dark world: no bright prospect unless we look forward to Christ coming again!
Backward, upward, forward: these are the three ways in which we should look at Jesus. The person that looks at the cross is a wise person; the person that looks at the cross and the intercession also, is wiser still; but they that look at all three, the cross, the intercession, and the coming of Jesus, they are wisest of all.

Thanks for this John - a good reminder and so well said. God's blessings to you and yours as you look backward, upward and forward!
ReplyDeleteDear John,
ReplyDeleteYou have been on my (our) mind and prayers brother. Your post from the other day, when you received the latest news, exhibits the real and genuine living grace of a man who knows what it is to live today for he knows he has LIFE in Christ forever beyond this tiny spec of activity we call time.
I encourage you to read this sermon by CH Spurgeon. I was reading it the other night, and could not get you out of my mind. http://www.spurgeon.org/sermons/3114.htm
Gaze not at the angry waves, but focus on the Saviour... He owns the winds and waves still -- and has His righteous and holy way in the whirlwind (Nahum 3). And He loves His blood bought people; rejoice in Him!
In Christian love,

Sola Dei Gloria
You and your family are often on my mind. I've been praying for you all.
