2 Cor. 4 16-18

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

God's medicines

Affliction is one of God’s medicines. By it He often teaches lessons which would be learned in no other way. By it He often draws souls away from sin and the world, which would otherwise have perished everlastingly. Health is a great blessing, but sanctified disease is a greater. Prosperity and worldly comfort, are what all naturally desire; but losses and crosses are far better for us, if they lead us to Christ. Thousands at the last day, will testify with David, “It is good for me that I have been afflicted.” (Psalm 119:71)

  1. Dear John & Henrietta:

In life we experience many varied emotions. There are times when we say with Peter: “I will never forsake You.” We can experience times of personal pride, only to find that we have been unfaithful shortly thereafter.
But when we fail, Jesus restores us.
We often feel inadequate to the task, just as in the feeding of the 5000, but Jesus supplies us His strength.
We sometimes fear, but God encourages us; “fear not, for I am with you.”
We are filled with anxiety, but God lets us rest in Him.
Sometimes unbelief overtakes us, and God must rebuke us with “why do you fear, ye of little faith!”
Sometimes we experience insecurity, but God’s Word gives us direction and certainty.
The Christian has a variety of human experiences as does every person, but the big difference is that the Christian never walks alone. God blesses us and blesses us and lets us rest in Him.
And to realize that our Lord Jesus was tempted in all things as we are, so He knows what it’s like to be human and have our human limitations and weaknesses. But, Psalm 103: 10-11

    10. He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor punished us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heavens are high above the earth,
    So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;

And so God’s grace and mercy will never fail us to all eternity.
    Brother, take courage in that!

  2. Dear John,
Today I just stumbled upon your blog for the first time. What a beautiful collection of gleanings from God's word and saints like Bunyan, Ryle, etc., I hope a blessing for many who read it, strengthening you, and glorifying God!
As for the difficult decision of going for another chemo round, pray for God's will - He will give you peace!
I, our family, will uphold you in our prayers. Also for Henrietta, we know how difficult it is to see a loved one (partner) suffer.
    Greetings
